Description
The Hercules Caves, a protected site located 14 km from Tangier on the Cap Spartel massif, are carved into natural limestone along the Atlantic coast. These dark and humid caves are illuminated by a unique passage opening to the ocean, offering a breathtaking view of the Strait of Gibraltar. These caves are Tangier's premier tourist destination. According to Greek mythology, it was there that Hercules found rest. The myth tells that this demi-god carved the Strait of Gibraltar by separating the mountains, raising Jbel Tarik (Gibraltar) on one side and Jbel Moussa in Africa on the other.
